And due to my competitive nature, I look at the people who have achieved impressive things on video games. Speed runs, pacifist runs, or high scores are all impressive to me, including gamerscore and certain achievements. I have unlocked some achievements through hard work and dedication. When I looked at this person's achievements, I noticed that he had unlocked some of "those" achievements. I respect anyone for having "those" achievements unlocked as well.
It proves to me that they are just as dedicated to that game as I am. I noticed that this user had unlocked some achievements I've been trying to unlock. So I asked him how was it that he managed to unlock [insert proud achievement here], and his response was always something along the lines of: "it was hard! And I noticed it was weird, because for proud achievements that you unlock, you don't simply say: "it was hard".
You talk about your journey, and sometimes you may offer any advice to the people that want to get it. Gamerscore is something that is priceless. Only the individual determines it's value. I look at gamerscore and I value the achievements that I achieved. I reflect on the hours of hard work and fun time I had during the process of unlocking them.
And I hope for other people to have a similar experience to what I had after unlocking a proud achievement. It feels extraordinary. Because I achieved something I chose to give great value to. Some people may find this silly, but that's because they do not understand the value of these achievements the way I see them.
I put this into perspective, and I think of my journey to university. I've been working hard, studying for hours in hope that I can someday get my degree in science comp sci. Similar to Xbox achievements, some people may see a degree in science worthless because they thought it wasn't worth the hard work. And you think you can share this experience. But you find out that your classmate cheated. And that your classmate didn't work for success, rather for fake pride.
And that gives your journey a cheap feeling. Like I said earlier, you might think it's stupid to get angry about a silly xbox achievement, Even I myself think it's absurd because not a lot of people think of gamerscore this way. Some people don't think about things like these at all. Those are the kind of people that don't have any personal goals in life. They just sit there, hoping for success to fall straight on their lap.
And trust me, I've met these people before. They exist. Don't get the wrong impression that I play Xbox "just" for the achievements. I don't. I also don't play every single game competitively. I play games for enjoyment, too. And too share experiences as well to fellow gamers. You've been there before. When you play a game that you thought was so great you thought it was necessary to share the experience so you recommended it to other people.
It's the same deal with a film. What makes a video game or a movie so great are the experiences through out, and their result. So think about achievements that way. I'm an achievement hunter as well, but you can't assume someone else cheated just because they said "It was hard". Maybe that is how you would respond, but you can't speak for everyone. I'm likely to respond with a similar response if it was asked by someone I don't know. Just from your own description of things, you are coming from a position of jealousy.
Forgive me, I don't mean to judge, I just want to let you know that you can work hard, and be proud of your achievements, but don't hold it against someone because they don't respond how you would expect, and don't accuse someone without proof.
Either way, its not up to us to decide. If there WAS cheating, then the cheater is punished appropriately. If there was NOT cheating, the person filing the false report isn't as high a priority for their future reports meaning its best not to file a lot of false reports lest you share the fate of the boy who cried wolf.
