Mechanical vibration by singiresu s.rao pdf

Building Knowledge: Concepts of Vibration in Engineering Retaining the style of previous editions, this Sixth Edition of Mechanical Vibrations effectively presents theory, computational aspects, and applications of vibration, introducing undergraduate engineering students to the subject of vibration engineering in as simple a manner as possible.

Emphasizing computer techniques of analysis, Mechanical Vibrations thoroughly explains the fundamentals of vibration analysis, building on the understanding achieved by students in previous undergraduate mechanics courses.

Related concepts are discussed, and real-life applications, examples, problems, and illustrations related to vibration analysis enhance comprehension of all concepts and material.

In the Sixth Edition, several additions and revisions have been made—including new examples, problems, and illustrations—with the goal of making coverage of concepts both more comprehensive and easier to follow. For a high level engineering textbook, I expected much better. By Derek S I am currently in my fourth year studying mechanical engineering and I have used a lot of text books. I am also working as a co-op with company that designs and builds clutches.

It's important that I learn to analyze vibrations because vibration damping and tuning is one of the most important functions of a clutch. That being said, I really want a quality vibrations textbook. The worst part is that it's full of errors!

I'm only in chapter two and I've already found multiple mistakes in the equations! How can trust anything I read? What if I don't catch the mistake next time?

The rest of my complaints are somewhat trivial compared to the first, but are still very real complaints. Overall, I feel like the book was cheaply made.

The pages are not nearly as vibrant as my other textbooks which makes it more difficult to read. Other textbooks use boxes or colors to help organize different sections of the chapter and highlight key points. This textbook looks like a novel with a lot of equations which makes it impossible quickly find key equations or even the point of the section without reading it beginning to end.

I enjoy reading textbooks, but reading a textbook is very different than reading a novel. You need to be able to quickly glance over a few pages and immediately understand what is going on before you even start reading the paragraphs. The problems are related to the vibration of a child restraint in a child-seat in an automobile, the prediction of injury to head in an automobile accident, the vibratory response of a diver on a high board, the transportation of a precision instrument, and new problems on vibration control.

This topic finds application in practical situations such as a railway track. The topics of Chapters 9, 10, and 11 fall in this category. Most textbooks discuss isolators, absorbers, and balancing in different chapters. Since one of the main purposes of the study of vibrations is to control vibration response, all topics related to vibration control are given in Chapter 9. The vibration measuring instruments, along with vibration exciters, experimental modal analysis procedure, and machine condition monitoring, are together presented in Chapter Similarly, all the numerical integration methods applicable to single- and multi-degree-offreedom systems, as well as continuous systems, are unified in Chapter The review questions are in the form of multiple choice questions, questions with brief answers, true-false questions, questions involving matching of related descriptions, and fill-in-theblank type questions.
